THE CLUB'S PLACE IN HISTORY

IN THE EARLY 1900'S 33 LONDON ROAD WAS A SCHOOL. AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR IN 1914 THE BUILDING WAS PURCHASED BY THE M.O.D. AND WAS USED AS A HOSPITAL FOR SOLIDIERS INJURED DURING THE FIRST WORLD WAR.

AFTER THE WARS END IN 1918 THE HOSPITAL WAS NO LONGER NEEDED AND SO IN 1920 THEY SOLD IT TO THE NAFFI  WHO FORMED THE UNITED SERVICES CLUB TO GIVE RETURNING SOLDIERS A SAFE PLACE TO MEET AND SOCIALISE MAKING TODAYS CLUB OVER 100 YEARS OLD.

ONE OF THE FIRST MEMBERS OF THE CLUB WAS THE FUTURE KING GEORGE VI WHO VISITED BROMLEY AND THE CLUB IN 1920.

THE CLUB HAS BEEN A WELL LOVED PART OF THE COMMUNITY EVER SINCE AND NOW IS HAPPY TO ALLOW ANY MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY IN AS A FULL MEMBER WHETHER YOU HAVE SERVED IN THE MILITARY OR NOT.

MOST OF OUR MEMBERS  NOW HAVE NOT BEEN IN THE MILITARY AT ALL.
